KIA Niro: Radiator Repair procedures

Removal

  1. Disconnect the negative (-) cable of the 12V battery.
  2. Remove the under cover.

(Refer to Engine Mechanical System - "Engine Room Under Cover")

  3. Drain the coolant of hybrid motor cooling system.

(Refer to Hybrid Motor Cooling System - "Coolant")

  4. Remove the front bumper.

(Refer to Body - "Front Bumper Cover")

  5. Remove the active air flap.

(Refer to Engine Mechanical System - "Active Air Flap")

  6. Remove the condenser.

(Refer to Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning - "Condenser")

  7. Remove the upper air guard (A).

  1. Separate the radiator upper hose (A).

  1. Loosen the nut (A).

Tightening torque : 8.8 - 13.7 N*m (0.9 - 1.4 kgf*m, 6.5 - 10.1 lb*ft)

  1. Separate the radiator lower hose (A).

  1. Remove the radiator (A) by loosening the nuts.

Tightening torque : 7.8 - 11.8 N*m (0.8 - 1.2 kgf*m, 5.8 - 8.7 lb*ft)

Installation

Installation

  1. Install in the reverse order of removal.

Warning

  • Be careful not to damage other hoses nearby when tightening the clamp.
  • Install the clamp in the specified direction to prevent interference with surrounding components.
  • Refill the hybrid motor cooling system with coolant and then perform the air bleeding using the KDS.

(Refer to Hybrid Motor Cooling System - "Coolant")

  • After installing, check for leakage of coolant or fluid from hose connection during engine start.

Inspection

Pressure Cap Testing

  1. Install the pressure cap and pressure tester on a SST (0K253-G5100).

  1. Apply a pressure of 79.4 - 122.58 kPa (0.95 - 1.25 kgf/cm², 11.5 - 17.78 psi).
  2. Check for a drop in pressure.
  3. If the pressure drops, replace the pressure cap.

Radiator motor Test

  1. Wait until motor is cool, then carefully remove the pressure cap and fill the reservoir tank with coolant, then install it on the pressure tester.

  1. Apply a pressure tester to the radiator and apply a pressure of 93.16 - 122.58 kPa (0.95 - 1.25 kgf/cm², 13.51 - 17.78 psi).
  2. Inspect for coolant leaks and a drop in pressure.
  3. Remove the tester and reinstall the pressure cap.
