Parking Brake Assembly Repair procedures

Removal

  1. Turn ignition switch OFF and disconnect the negative (-) battery terminal.
  2. Remove the crash pad lower panel.

    (Refer to Body - "Crash Pad")

  3. Remove the knee air bag.

    (Refer to Restraint - "Knee Airbag(KAB) Module")

  4. Remove the junction box.

    (Refer to Body Electrical System -"Fuses And Relays")

  5. Remove the cable nut (A) and clip (B) and then remove the cable from the parking brake pedal.

  1. Disconnect the parking brake switch connector (A).

  1. Loosen the parking brake pedal bolt and nuts and then remove the parking brake pedal.

Tightening torque :

Bolt : 16.7 - 25.5 N*m (1.7 - 2.6 kgf*m, 12.3 - 18.8 lb*ft)

Nuts : 9.8 - 14.7 N*m (1.0 - 1.5 kgf*m, 7.2 - 10.8 lb*ft)

  1. Installation is the reverse of removal.

Parking Brake Foot Stroke Adjustment

  1. Operate the parking brake pedal through a full stroke over 3 times for setting the parking cables.
  2. Adjust the adjusting nut (A) so that the parking brake pedal stroke becomes 6 - 7 notches when operating effort of 294 N (30 kgf, 216 lb) is applied.

Warning

1) The parking brake adjustment must be carried out after adjusting the rear shoe.

2) After adjusting parking brake, note the following: a. Must be free from clearance between adjusting nut and pin.

b. Check securely that the brake is not dragging.
