Electric EGR Control Valve Description and operation

Electric EGR Control Valve Description and operation

Description

The Electric EGR Control Valve is a solenoid valve installed between the EGR cooler and the exhaust
line that controls the EGR (Exhaust Gas Recirculation) amount by the ECM's duty control signal
depending on engine load and the intake air demand.

The Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) system is used to add the exhaust gas to intake air in order to
reduce an excess of air and the temperature in the combustion chamber.

Inspection

Motor

  1. Switch "OFF" the ignition.
  2. Disconnect the EEGR valve connector.
  3. Check if the EEGR valve is stuck by foreign material.
  4. Measure the resistance between 1 and 3 control terminals of the motor.
  5. Check that the resistance is within the specification.

Specification : 2.21 - 2.99 Ω (20ºC (68 ºF))

Feedback Position Sensor

  1. Connect the KDS to the data link connector.
  2. Fully open and fully close the EEGR valve by conducting the actuation test.
  3. Check that the voltage is within the specification

Removal

Removal

  1. Switch "OFF" the ignition and disconnect the negative (-) battery terminal.
  2. Remove the air cleaner assembly.

(Refer to Engine Mechanical System - "Air Cleaner")

  3. Disconnect the EEGR valve connector (A).

  1. EGR cooler pipe.

(Refer to Engine Mechanical System - "EGR Cooler")

  2. Remove the EEGR valve (B) after loosening the mounting bolts and nuts (A).

Installation

Installation

Warning

  • Install the component to the specified torque.
  • Note that internal damage may occur when the component is dropped. In this case, use it after inspecting.
  • Apply engine oil to the valve O-ring.
  1. Install in the reverse order of removal.
